Spiros Mourelatos at the two-day high-level conference of the European Commission (19-20/02/2024)

The two-day high-level conference organised by the European Commission, which took place on 19-20 February at the Charlemagne Building in Brussels, was a great success. The theme of the conference was “Research perspectives on the health impacts of climate change”.
Mr Spiros Mourelatos participated in the panel of Theme 1, Parallel Session 2 “Climate change and infectious diseases” and spoke about the importance of establishing and operating data collection and management infrastructures in the context of better addressing mosquito-borne diseases in the European area.
Parallel Session 2 was moderated by Jonathan Suk on behalf of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and there was a lot of interaction with the other panelists, namely Flavia Riccardo from the National Institute of Health of Italy, Joacim Rocklov, Professor of Epidemiology from Heidelberg University and Richard Allan, Founder and CEO of The Mentor Initiative (NGO).

The conference was attended in person by around 450 participants, including the General Directors of the European Commission’s Directorates General for Research, Health and Environment. In addition it was possible to follow all the themes and sessions of the conference via live streaming (we will come back with more material and interesting extracts from the conference in a forthcoming post).
