Awareness campaigns on Mosquitoes continue in the Region of Thessaly
An informational event on the progress of the mosquito control program was held on Thursday, July 9, in the courtyard of the Beautification Association in Kastri–Loutro, with the participation of residents and representatives of local organizations.
The event was attended by the Deputy Regional Governor for Health of the Region of Thessaly, Mr. Vangelis Apostolou, who also visited the local communities of Messagala and Kouloura. The goal of the initiative was to provide citizens with detailed information regarding the program’s progress, the interventions being implemented in the area, as well as measures for prevention and personal protection against mosquitoes.
Scientists from Ecodevelopment—specifically Nikos Gkarlis, Nikos Lazos, and Lefteris Soulis—presented the project’s implementation methodology and answered questions from local residents and business owners. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of integrated mosquito management, which is based on the early detection and control of breeding sites before large populations of adult mosquitoes emerge.
In addition to the Deputy Regional Governor for Health, the event was attended by the Deputy Mayor for the Environment, Sanitation, and Civil Protection of the Municipality of Tembi, Mr. Georgios Nikolaou; the President of the Kastrí Beautification Association – Loutro, Mr. Nikolaos Natsios; the President of the Mesagala Beautification Association, Mr. Fotis Mitsiakos; the Vice President of the Larissa Prefecture Hoteliers’ Association, Mr. Georgios Polyzos; Mr. Makis Giannakopoulos, Vice President of the Kato Olympos Amateur Fishermen’s Association, and Mr. Athanasios Mitsopoulos, President of the Kato Olympos Shopkeepers’ Association.
Ecodevelopment, in close collaboration with the Region of Thessaly, the Municipality of Tembi, and local agencies, continues to implement the programme consistently and with scientific rigor, with the primary goal of minimizing nuisance and protecting public health. Public awareness and active citizen participation are an integral and very important part of this collective effort.
