Mourelatos Spiros
CEO & President
Biologist with a PhD in Hydrobiology, President and CEO of the company. In the late 90’s he organized and promoted mosquito control projects in Greece and in the following years in Europe, from his position as President of EMCA (European Mosquito Control Association). He is internationally recognized as one of the most experienced scientists in mosquito control.
Dr. Spiros Mourelatos is a graduate of the Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a PhD in hydrobiology from the P & M Curie University of Paris. He has considerable experience in the field of environmental management and mosquito control programmes and is a certified technical expert of the World Health Organization (WHO).
In 1997, with the contribution of his partners, he designed and organised the first large-scale mosquito control project in the rice fields of Thessaloniki using larval control methodologies. Since 2010, following the West Nile Virus (WNV) outbreak in the Region of Central Macedonia and in 2011 when indigenous malaria cases were recorded in the Peloponnese Region, he has made significant contributions to the control of WNV and worked towards the prevention of malaria re-establishment in Greece.
In 2014 he was chairman of the organizing committee of the international conference of E-SOVE (European Society of Vector Ecology) in Thessaloniki, Greece, and in 2017 he was chairman respectively of the international conference of EMCA in Montenegro.
He was president of EMCA in 2015 – 2016 and, representing the Organization, he actively participated in the preparation of the expert meeting on behalf of WHO-Europe on “Technical consultation on Vector-borne Diseases and control in the WHO European Region”, the results of which were included in the relevant WHO (World Health Organization) manual in 2019.
He has been repeatedly invited to international fora to present ECODEVELOPMENT ‘s experience and is recognized as one of the leading experts in the field of large-scale mosquito control, with scientific work published in reputable scientific and technical journals.

Biologist, member of the company’s staff since 1998 and responsible for public health issues related to mosquitoes. She manages the company’s R & D department and is a board member and upcoming president of European Mosquito Control Association (EMCA)
Dipl. Biol. Sandra Gewehr (MSc, University of Cologne) has been working at Ecodevelopment since 1998. As director of the company’s Research & Development department her areas of expertise are:
- The overall supervision of the implementation of the company’s research projects
- The management and analysis of field data (databases, GIS, remote sensing data)
- The research, drafting and implementation of response protocols for vector-borne diseases
- Entomological and epidemiological surveillance (identification of mosquitoes, organization and analysis of data on mosquitoes and sentinel animals),
- Monitoring and evaluation of new technologies, equipment and formulations and development of new methodologies and services in mosquito control at operational level
- The scientific responsibility for conducting practical, bachelor and master theses implemented in the company
- Responsibility for the exchange of know-how with counterpart organizations and research institutions abroad
She is a recognized expert in mosquito control and since 2015 she is a member of the EMCA Board. Since 2018 she is a certified expert of the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2014 she organised the first international professional field training course on vector control on behalf of E-SOVE and EMCA in Thessaloniki, and in 2016 she organised the repetition of this training course in Lisbon. She is an expert in ecological mapping of wetlands for mosquito control and has a sound knowledge of GIS software, photogrammetry and geoinformatics. In 2018 she was certified as a UAV pilot and launched the aerial applications department of the company. She has significant experience in organizing large-scale mosquito control projects. She has been a mosquito control project manager in the Regions of Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and Western Macedonia contributing to field work and public health issues in nearly all projects of the company.

Kalaitzopoulou Stella
Ι.Τ. Director & Senior Project Manager
Biologist, with experience in coordinating large-scale mosquito control projects since 1997. In addition to mosquito control project management, she is in charge of IT with main responsibilities for the management of field data and the adaptation of the company’s in-house software to project’s demands. She is also responsible for the company’s Environmental Management and Quality Management Systems.
Stella Kalaitzopoulou, biologist of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, has been working in Ecodevelopment S.A. since 1997. She is the company’s IT manager with main responsibilities:
- The design, operation and continuous upgrades of Ecodevelopment’s electronic data management platform (eBite)
- The support mechanism for remote projects
- The technological upgrade of mosquito control projects (new standards, new methodologies, and new forms of organization)
- Mapping and digitizing of mosquito breeding sites (construction of monitoring networks)
- Organizing the collection of mosquito larvae for multiple uses (project monitoring, epidemiological monitoring, evaluation of specific applications),
Implementation and compliance of the company’s operation with quality standards - The production of training material and training of seasonal staff
She has significant experience in managing large-scale mosquito control projects and coordinates for many years the mosquito control programme in the Region of Central Macedonia. He has managed the WNV epidemic and the recent malaria outbreaks in Central Macedonia, both at operational and communication level with complete success. She is the company’s Quality Assurance Manager and coordinator of the WaMoS research project “Remote sensing surface water monitoring for rational use of insecticide formulations in large-scale mosquito control projects”, T1EDK-05106, GSRT, 2018-2020.

Agronomist, working in Ecodevelopment since 2000 with participation in large-scale mosquito control projects. Main responsibilities include management of key processes, implementation of specifications and quality control

Perros Nikos

Agronomist with MSc in Geoinformatics and MSc in Quality Assurance. He has been working at Ecodevelopment since 2010 with an active role in the planning, organization and coordination of mosquito control projects in Southern Greece as well as active involvement in the company’s Precision Agriculture services

Karidas Christos

Agronomist, Dr. Geomatics, since 2016 he is the main Remote Sensing Consultant in Ecodevelopment on agriculture and natural environment issues, focusing on upgrading old and developing new services
Dr. Christos Karydas has studied agronomy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with specialization in soil resources management (MSc) and has a PhD in Remote Sensing. He has worked as a principal scientific researcher in land use mapping, soil erosion modelling, biomass mapping in natural & agricultural ecosystems, crop parameter assessment, environmental risk and impact assessment, etc. He teaches Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Soil Resource Management at higher educational institutions in Greece and abroad. His research is published in prestigious international journals of high impact. He serves as a Reviewer of the European Research Council and as an expert witness of the Court of First Instance of Thessaloniki.

Η PhD Ξανθή Τσένη, έχει πτυχίο Γεωλογίας από το Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών και πτυχίο MSc στην Γεωπληροφορική (ειδίκευση στην πολυκριτηριακή ανάλυση και στην αντικειμενοστρεφή ανάλυση εικόνων – OBIA) από το Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο (ΕΜΠ). Είναι υποψήφια διδάκτορας Γεωλογίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών. Έχει εμπειρία στην διαχείριση περιβαλλοντικών δεδομένων, στις μεθόδους ανάπτυξης συστημάτων υποστήριξης λήψεων αποφάσεων για την εκτίμηση επικινδυνότητας. Από το 2011 είναι εξωτερικός συνεργάτης στον Τομέα Γεωγραφίας και Χωροταξίας στη Σχολή Αγρονόμων και Τοπογράφων Μηχανικών του ΕΜΠ (με επαγγελματική εμπειρία στην διδασκαλία GIS). Έχει συμμετάσχει σε τρία εθνικά και ένα διεθνές ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα (Πανεπιστήμιο της Πάτρας, ΕΜΠ).
