Ecodevelopment in collaboration with the International Hellenic University (IHU) and more specifically Professor Apostolos Tsagaris, President of the Department of Production Engineering and Management and Director of the Department’s Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, in the framework of the project “Study, Design and Construction of a standard mosquito counting device”, is gradually proceeding with the field installation of 10 real-time adult mosquito counters and 10 water sensors, initially in Western Greece, then in Thessaly and finally in Central Macedonia. The aim is to have a total of 50 counters and 50 water sensors installed by mid-summer.
It is worth mentioning that the prototype of the mosquito counter was the subject of Professor Tsagaris’ recent scientific paper at the 8th International Conference on Advanced Algorithms and Control Engineering (ICAACE 2025) in March 2025 in Shanghai, China. And in fact, this paper on “Electronic Mosquito Counting Device” won the first prize for the best paper of the conference.
TV100 made a special feature on this cooperation between IHU and Ecodevelopment in the TV show “ParagoGhn”. Apostolos Tsagaris spoke to George Daliaris about the technical characteristics of the construction of the counters and Spiros Mourelatos about their use in mosquito control projects and possibly in other fields.
