Representatives of five regions of Greece evaluate the ebite platform

On the occasion of the tenth year of uninterrupted operation of Ecodevelopment’s operational platform of “ebite”, simultaneously with the launch of the large scale regional mosquito control projects, a targeted survey in the form of a questionnaire was conducted in March 2025 among employees of the Public Health Directorates of five regions of the country, to evaluate the functionality and efficiency of the platform.

Already from 2016, Ecodevelopment had developed, in collaboration with its technical consultant EXEO, an innovative integrated real-time field data input and management platform for large-scale mosquito control projects called “ebite”.

120 Ecodevelopment field technicians electronically enter entomological data and field observations from more than 300,000 visits annually into the ebite system’s tablet application. The central platform system combines the field data with open source data and meteorological forecasts and generates operational predictions accordingly. About 400 users (250 from contracting authorities and 150 from Ecodevelopment) exchange data in real time on this platform (web application). This unique collection of field data has led us to create and operate predictive models and other digital tools.

For this particular application, a patent was awarded to Ecodevelopment entitled “System and method of presence/absence prediction for the three genera of larvae (Culex, Aedes, Anopheles) in breeding sites” (Industrial Property Agency, Patent Number 1010544, Filing Date 10/11/2022, valid for 20 years).
This survey was conducted among fifty (50) executives of the Public Health Directorates of five regions of Greece (Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia, Thessaly, Western Greece, Crete). These selected officials are the designated project monitors from the local Services and have an active role in the supervision and the implementation of the mosquito control actions.

The following charts present the main results of the survey.

The main conclusion that emerged from this survey is that there is a relatively high level of satisfaction from the designated users of the Public Health Directorates of the five regions regarding the usability and operation of the ebite platform. Evaluation forms of this type for applications such as ebite prove to be particularly useful for future upgrading and optimisation of its functions, which is why it will be repeated, possibly with the participation of other users.
