7th SOVE International Congress in Mallorca, Spain

The 7th International Congress of the Society for Vector Ecology (SOVE) was held from 1rst to 6th October 2017 in Palma de Mallorca, one of the most fascinating cities in the Mediterranean Sea. The Congress entitled “NEW TECHNOLOGY CONQUERING OLD VECTORS”, was attended by 340 participants from 45 countries all over the world, among which Dr. Spiros Mourelatos, president of Ecodevelopment SA.

To deal with vectors and vector borne diseases has never been so in the spotlight than in the last decade. The current distribution and occurrence of vector borne disease such as Zika and Dengue have enormously aroused the global public concern of diseases transmitted by vectors. It is now a good opportunity to show the great value that research and management of vectors mean for human society. This SOVE meeting was the ideal framework to show the progress in knowledge of basic aspects of vector ecology, those aspects that are then so needed by other disciplines such as modeling and risk assessment. Conference Topics:

  1. Climate change and vectors
  2. Ecology and behavior of vectors
  3. Emerging vector borne diseases and risk assessment
  4. Genomics of vectors
  5. Global research projects on vectors
  6. Remote sensing analysis of vectors and vector-borne diseases
  7. Taxonomy, systematic and phylogeny of vectors
  8. Vector control
  9. Vector-Pathogen interactions
  10. Surveillance of vectors and vector-borne diseases
