Since 1996 we are pioneers at the implementation of wide – area mosquito control projects and we continue to innovate.
In the context of the better coordination of the mosquito control project of the Region of Western Greece, which started in March for 2024, the 1st central working meeting between representatives of the Contracting Authority and the project team of Ecodevelopment took place on Thursday 18/04 in the building of the WGR. The meeting was attended by, among others, the Vice-Regional Head of Health Mrs. Anna Mastorakou and the Director of Public Health Mr. Theodoros Lambos, as well as representatives of the project and monitoring committees from the General Directorate of Public Health and the Health Directorates of the three Regional Entities.
During the meeting, Ecodevelopment’s Regional Manager of Southern Greece Nikos Perros presented the implementation schedule of the mosquito control project for the current period, and later on, the discussion focused on the adaptation of the project in relation to the new action plan of the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Hellenic CDC, on West Nile virus infection. In addition, the project team was given the opportunity to report on the progress of control interventions in the areas of high interest.
Mr Lambos highlighted the excellent cooperation with the new Vice-Regional Director of Health, who, as a doctor, understands in depth the needs and priorities of the Public Health Department. Mrs. Mastorakou, for her part, set as a priority the defence of Public Health, while by Easter she expects the results of the field applications to have a positive effect on the reduction of the locally observed nuisance, to the extent that the unstable weather conditions of the current period allow.
In parallel with the ground actions, air applications with helicopter and drones are systematically continued in the areas deemed necessary. In any case, it is considered necessary for citizens to take precautionary measures to avoid mosquito breeding outbreaks in private spaces, as well as personal protection measures against mosquitoes.
