Ecodevelopment organized a working meeting at its premices in Filyro, Thessaloniki, with the participation of three distinguished scientists from the United States of America, namely Dr. David T. Dyjack, CEO of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), Dr. Ary Faraji, President of the Entomological Society of America (ESA) and former President of the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA), and Dr. Greg White, Assistant Director of the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District.
First, there was a very fruitful discussion between our guests and Ecodevelopment executives regarding the need to recognize, upgrade, and certify agencies and professionals that implement comprehensive large-scale mosquito control projects. This was followed by a presentation on the operation of individual departments of Ecodevelopment:
- Operation of the Ecodevelopment Laboratory (EcoLab) by the Laboratory Director, Dr. Elizabeth Charizani.
- The ebite electronic project monitoring platform by the Mosquito Control Director, Ms. Stella Kalaitzopoulou.
- GIS Data Management by the GIS Manager, Dr. Andromachi Hatziantoniou.
- Infrastructure / Databases / Project Monitoring Indicators, by the Director of the Data Management Team, Mr. Vasilis Pontikeris.
- Expert Systems and DSS, by the Director of the Research and Development Department, Mrs. Sandra Gewehr.
This meeting follows on from the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District, as well as the three-year collaboration with NEHA, with the participation of NEHA CEO Dr. David Dyjack in EMCA activities such as the coordination of the organization’s 11th workshop in Mendrisio, chaired by Sandra Gewehr, the opening and closing of the 20th EMCA Conference in Majorca, as well as his speech at the 5th webinar co-organized by Ecodevelopment, the Region of Crete and the Panhellenic Association of Public Health Supervisors in 2024. Similarly, Spiros Mourelatos, representing Ecodevelopment, traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, in July 2025 as an official guest to participate in a panel discussion and give a speech on mosquito control in Europe as part of the NEHA’s Annual Educational Conference for 2025.
