Sandra Gewehr, the current president of the EMCA (European Mosquito Control Association) and R&D Director of Ecodevelopment, has been invited by the Director of the Anastasia Mosquito Control District, Florida, USA, Dr. Rui-De Xue, who is also the president-elect of the AMCA (American Mosquito Control Association), to the 19th Annual arbovirus surveillance and mosquito control workshop.
Mrs Gewehr will give a presentation on mosquito-borne diseases currently threatening Europe as well as on mosquito control technologies and EMCA’s support to fight both diseases and nuisance. At the initiative of Dr. Florence Fouque of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases of the World Health Organization (TDR/WHO), responsible WHO Officer for the development of WHO-EMCA guidelines for mosquito control, a preliminary discussion will take place to explore the possibility of an EMCA-AMCA cooperation to create joint guidelines based on WHO norms and standards, a joint action undertaken for the first time worldwide.
