Perimetros ΕRΤ3: Thessaly – Low risk of West Nile virus

Last Saturday (30/09/2023) the ERT3 show “Perimetros” addressed Dr Spiros Mourelatos to answer key questions regarding the West Nile virus and the possibility of its transmission in Thessaly after “Daniel”.
He referred to the five years of data from the region, mainly from the aera of Larissa. “Our data is, I would say, pleasant in the sense that there is no circulation of the virus, that is, there was a circulation of the virus in July and August, which was broken, it is not continuing at the moment…, we are going to conduct a second cycle of measurements from the network of 50 fixed sites.”
Spiros Mourelatos pointed out that, from the data collected from the network of 50 fixed sites installed by Ecodevelopment in collaboration with the EODY and the Region of Thessaly, the results are positive, and more specifically “the mosquito population has increased, as is normal after the floods, but this increase refers to the flood mosquito Aedes caspius, which is not involved in the transmission of West Nile virus, nor malaria.”
