Working meeting at the Medical School of the University of Malaya in Malaysia

Following an invitation from Senior Lecturer Dr. Rajiv a/l Ravi, Spiros Mourelatos gave a lecture to the scientific staff of the Department of Parasitology at the University of Malaya Medical School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, June 5.

The subject of the lecture and the constructive discussion that followed had as a topic the use of artificial intelligence tools in large-scale mosquito control projects.

Malaysia, a country of 30 million people, is under great pressure from dengue fever, with over 100,000 reported, confirmed cases annually. This particular laboratory (Vector Control Technology Lab) supports the Malaysian Ministry of Health at a national level in mosquito control actions, which are mainly implemented by private entities.

Following the working meeting with the members of the laboratory, it was decided to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between Ecodevelopment and the laboratory, with the aim of exchanging know-how and data on epidemiological surveillance and mosquito control methodologies. In this context, two important objectives are the joint submission/participation in research programs and the publication of scientific articles.
