The flood control plan of the Region that will shield Thessaly in extreme weather presented Dimitris Kouretas, in the context of the meeting held, in the presence of government officials, to examine the progress of restoration projects and compensation from the disaster of Daniel that hit Thessaly a year ago, at the headquarters of the Region of Thessaly in Larissa.
In particular, he made reference to the following five projects for the protection of Thessaly:
- The restoration works of Daniel

- Mosquito Control Programme
Referring to the Mosquito Control Programme, as it was implemented from March 2024, Mr. Kouretas highlighted the differentiation of the model compared to previous years, under which a separate project was implemented for Lake Karla with preventive actions in 17 villages alongside the lake, while new technologies were integrated and used alongside the design of a single integrated programme at regional level with a three-year horizon 2025-2027 and a budget of 2.1 million euros. As a result of all this, 53 West Nile Virus cases were recorded for 2024 compared to 61 in 2023 and zero malaria cases compared to 8 from 2015 to 2023. An 80% reduction in nuisance was also recorded compared to the 2015-2023 period.
