On July 14, 2026, EcodevelopmentS.A. and the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Company S.A. (EYATH S.A.) signed a five-year Memorandum of Cooperation, laying the groundwork for the exchange of data primarily regarding stormwater drains in the urban environment of Thessaloniki. The primary objective of the collaboration is the mutual exchange of information regarding the exact location and condition of stormwater drains, as well as the potential detection of mosquito larvae populations in other underground structures under EYATH’s responsibility.
Ecodevelopment S.A., as part of the mosquito control project it is implementing on behalf of the Region of Central Macedonia, conducts systematic inspections and recordings in its proprietary ebite application at the stormwater drains of the Thessaloniki urban complex. Through the daily collection and shared use of field data, the company plans to provide regular updates on storm drains experiencing operational issues, updates to the mapping of storm drains in the Thessaloniki urban environment, and the identification of underground structures that may serve as mosquito breeding grounds and require systematic monitoring.
Thus, as part of this new collaboration, EYATH S.A. will provide Ecodevelopment with access to selected underground structures to check for the presence of stagnant water and the potential development of mosquito larvae within them. The results of these inspections will be used to explore the inclusion of additional underground structures in the existing monitoring network for potential breeding sites.
This joint initiative highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration (GIS, Information Technology, Data Analysis, Entomology, etc.) and the need for reliable data to address the complex challenges of the modern urban environment.
With the signing of the Memorandum, Ecodevelopment S.A. and EYATH S.A. are establishing a stable framework for cooperation, with the shared goal of prevention, the protection of public health, and the improvement of the quality of life for the citizens of Thessaloniki.
