Given the importance of mosquito-borne diseases in Europe in recent years, especially in the context of climate change, the well-known European channel ARTE, which specializes in the production and broadcasting of television documentaries, has begun production of a documentary on the following topics:
- How great is the threat to the health of the European population from mosquito-borne viruses?
- What infectious diseases should we be preparing for now?
- What measures is science taking and what can we ourselves do to limit the spread in the future?
The documentary will focus on mosquito control projects being carried out in Southern Europe, with a focus on Greece, and on state-of-the-art research, with a focus on France.
Within the framework of a relevant MoU signed between the production company and Ecodevelopment, a television crew from Germany visited Oikodevelopment’s facilities and the field of application in Thessaloniki and Patras to produce audiovisual material and conduct interviews with the project contributors.
It is very important that a reputable European channel, which deals with science and culture issues, will broadcast a documentary dedicated exclusively to the prevention and control of mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. It is also noteworthy that no documentary with this content has been presented in Europe in recent years.
This 50-minute documentary is expected to be broadcasted on the ARTE channel in early 2026.
